【摘要】:Specificgravity,apparent,maybeusedasaqualitativetestinestablishingtheidentityofachemical.Itmaybeusedtocalculatethevolumeoccupiedbyaproductwhoseweightisknown,ortocalculatetheweightofaproductfromitsvolume.Itmaybeusedtodeterminethecompositionofbinarymixturesofpurechemicals.Inthecaseofmostrefinedindustrialchemicalsspecificgravity,apparent,isofminimalvalueindefiningquality,althoughitmaydetectgrosscontamination.Ofthetwotestmethodsdescribed,thepycnometermethod(TestMethodB,1.1.2)isthemostaccurateandprecise.Forthisreasonitisthepreferredmethodincaseofdisputes.Thehydrometermethod(TestMethodA,1.1.1)istheleastaccurateandprecise,butitisalsothesimplestandfastesttoperformandisoftenentirelysatisfactoryformanypurposes.Ifthesampleistooviscoustopermitthehydrometertofloatfreely,thepycnometertestmethodshouldbeused.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationofthespecificgravity,apparent,ofliquidindustrialchemicals.Twotestmethodsarecoveredasfollows:1.1.1TestMethodAspecificgravity,apparent,bymeansofahydrometer.1.1.2TestMethodBspecificgravity,apparent,bymeansofapycnometer.Note1TestMethodD4052describesaninstrumentalprocedure.1.2Incommonusagethetermspecificgravity,apparent,isunderstoodtomeanspecificgravity.SincethistestmethodistobeinconformitywithTerminologyE12,alltermsreadingspecificgravitywerechangedtospecificgravity,apparent,withoutalteringthemeaningofspecificgravityand,thetermapparentcouldbedroppedineverydayoperationsafterestablishingtheusetermequivalency.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.1.3ReviewthecurrentMaterialsSafetyDataSheets(MSDS)fordetailedinformationconcerningtoxicity,firstaidprocedures,handling,andsafetyprecautions.
